Notatka autora

FaberSansPro Kraeftig by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFont Augsburg is a free display sans serif with dramatic stroke variation. Its tall letters combine broad curves with needle-sharp points and clean, open construction. Several forms have an elegant, slightly theatrical silhouette.

Publishing and cultural posters can use its scale and crisp geometry for commanding editorial covers. It also suits fashion branding, restaurant signage, and event graphics with a refined urban character. Across these settings, the mix of narrow strokes and sweeping shapes turns lettering into a recognizable graphic feature.

Faber Sans Pro combines two typefaces: a standard sans serif and a stylistic alternate containing uncial-script characters.

The typeface originated in 1996 as the sans serif “Faber Eins & Zwei,” one of the first ingoFonts. It was revised in 2010 and updated for current font technology.

The basic typeface follows the classic-modern sans serif tradition associated with Futura by Paul Renner and Gill Sans by Eric Gill. Roman Capitalis influenced the proportions of the capital letters, while humanistic minuscule influenced the lowercase characters.

The stylistic alternates for a, e, f, g, l, t, and u are based on uncial scripts from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The alternate r has a distinctive pointed design. OpenType technology combines both typefaces in one font. The stylistic alternates can be accessed through Discretionary Ligatures, Stylistic Alternates, or the glyph panel.

Faber Sans Pro includes a true italic. Its italic characters are based on handwriting styles rather than being slanted versions of the upright characters. The italic forms of a and g have distinct designs derived from handwriting.

The fonts available from ingoFonts are free to download. The downloadable files contain only a reduced version with uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z.

The complete font, including numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and ligatures, is available only with an order and payment.
