Mirkwood Chronicle by Bill Roach is a free Celtic Gothic display font with tall, irregular capitals and a storybook silhouette. Broad curves meet knife-thin strokes, and several letters flare into pointed feet or hooked ends. The uneven widths make the alphabet feel carved and animated rather than typeset.

A fantasy novel cover is its clearest setting, with the thorny contours also fitting role-playing game titles, theatrical posters, and medieval-themed event graphics. Its mix of grandeur and eccentricity will appeal to designers working with folklore, woodland legends, and dramatic fantasy.

This font is loosely based upon the hand drawn letter styles of the maps of J.R.R. Tolkien. This font is a type set originally hand drawn by W.K. Roach, and then digitized for use in commercial and non commercial media products and publications. The font was completed as an initial beta release on April 11, 2012, 11:42 PM EST.
