Serifonwide

Serifonwide, Dieter Schumacher's free high-contrast serif display font from 1998-1999, has a crisp editorial feel with broad, assertive serifs set against lean curved strokes. The letters look sharp and slightly compressed, giving the alphabet a clipped rhythm that feels closer to headline typography than to calm book serifs.

It suits magazine mastheads, poster titles, record sleeves, fashion cover lines, and branding where a free font needs a cultured but punchy voice. Because the serifs do so much of the visual work, it also fits short title cards and monogram-like initials that need presence without turning ornamental.
